Job Summary:
The Forklift Instructor delivers comprehensive training programs to new and experienced forklift operators. This position must ensure that all forklift operators participating in the program are thoroughly trained and certified per OSHA regulations and stringent safety and operational standards. The Forklift Instructor's primary objective is to promote safe, efficient, and effective forklift operations, significantly contributing to a safe work environment and minimizing the risk of accidents or injuries.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Training Delivery:
  • Conduct hands-on training sessions and classroom instruction on the safe and effective operation of various forklifts, including counterbalance, reach trucks, and pallet jacks.
  • Provide instruction in forklift operations, including developing curriculum and instructional strategies that meet the competencies required for safe operations.
  • Administer oral, written, and performance tests to measure trainees' progress and ensure they meet required safety and operational standards.
  1. Assessment and Certification:
  • Evaluate trainees' performance through practical assessments and written exams, providing constructive feedback.
  • Certify employees upon completing training.
  1. Curriculum Development:
  • Develop and update training materials, including manuals, presentations, and educational content, ensuring alignment with industry standards and regulatory requirements.
  • Prepare lesson plans, course syllabi, and other instructional documents as required.
  1. Safety and Compliance:
  • Promote a safety culture by emphasizing safe operating practices, regular equipment inspections, and adherence to safety guidelines.
  • Monitor compliance with safety regulations and best practices and address any safety concerns or incidents related to forklift operation.
  1. Record Keeping and Documentation:
  • Maintain accurate records of all training sessions, certifications, and assessments.
  • Submit required paperwork, including attendance records and other documentation, promptly.
  1. Additional Responsibilities:
  • Offer periodic refresher courses for certified operators to ensure ongoing compliance with safety standards.
  • Assist in planning and coordinating instructional activities to promote the most effective training programs.
  • Function as a referral source for individuals needing additional services.

Qualifications:
  • Education: A high school diploma or equivalent is required. An associate degree or vocational training in a related field is preferred.
  • Experience: Minimum of three years of forklift operation experience, with at least two years as a forklift trainer or instructor. Five years of experience in forklift operations is preferred.
  • Certifications: Certified Forklift Trainer (OSHA or equivalent certification) required.
  • Skills:
    • Strong knowledge of OSHA regulations and safety standards related to forklift operations.
    • Excellent communication and presentation skills, with the ability to adapt training methods to various learning styles.
    • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and other training software.
    • Strong problem-solving and decision-making abilities.
    • Attention to detail and commitment to maintaining high safety standards.

Physical Requirements:
  • Ability to operate forklifts and perform physical tasks such as lifting, bending, and standing for extended periods.
  • Lifting/Carrying: Ability to lift to 50 lbs. occasionally, with frequent lifting/carrying of objects weighing up to 25 lbs.
  • Must meet the job's physical demands, including sitting, standing, walking, stooping, and kneeling.

Work Environment:
  • Work is performed in classroom and warehouse environments, with exposure to standard office conditions and moderate noise levels.
  • Must adhere to all safety rules and regulations and be willing to work a flexible schedule as needed.

Special Requirements:
  • Must be at least 21 years old.
  • Must have a valid Oklahoma driver's license with a good driving record.
  • Must maintain compliance with Goodwill's Drug and Alcohol Abuse Policy and pass any required background checks.
