Description:

The Special Education Coach supports teachers in instruction and meeting demands of compliance. They support Bixby Public Schools in ensuring compliance with federal and state special education regulations while promoting best practices in instructional strategies and IEP implementation. This position serves as a resource for special education teachers and staff, providing training, coaching, and direct support to improve student outcomes and uphold procedural integrity.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Instructional Coaching Responsibilities:

  • Support the implementation of evidence-based instructional strategies tailored to meet the needs of students with disabilities.
  • Provide job-embedded coaching, including co-teaching, modeling lessons, observation, and feedback.
  • Assist teachers in data collection and analysis to inform instruction and IEP development.
  • Facilitate professional development in areas such as differentiation, specially designed instruction, accommodations, behavior strategies, and progress monitoring.
  • Promote inclusive practices and co-teaching models in general education settings.
Compliance Responsibilities:
  • Monitor and support compliance with IDEA, state regulations, and BPS policies related to special education.
  • Assist in preparing for and responding to state monitoring, audits, or dispute resolution activities.
  • Review Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) for accuracy, completeness, and compliance.
  • Provide guidance on timelines, documentation, and procedural safeguards.
  • Assist with organizing and attending IEP meetings as needed to support teams with compliance.
  • Collaborate with site administrators and special education staff to resolve compliance issues promptly and effectively.
Collaborative Responsibilities:
  • Serve as a liaison between district special services, building-level staff, and families to support consistent communication and collaboration.
  • Participate in multidisciplinary team discussions and problem-solving meetings.
  • Support new and veteran special education teachers with onboarding, training, and mentoring.
  • Maintain updated knowledge of special education law, instructional best practices, and Bixby Public Schools policies and procedures.
Must have the following:
  • Certification in Special Education
  • Minimum education requirement is a Bachelor's Degree
  • Minimum of 7 years of experience working as a special education teacher
  • Experience using Google Drive, Google Sheets, Canva, EDPlan is a plus
