We are partnered with an outstanding long-term client who is looking to grow their team. They seek a Senior Scientist or Engineer to join our Upstream Process Development (USP) team focused on mammalian cell culture. This team develops cell lines, optimizes bioprocess technologies, and advances upstream platforms using batch, fed-batch, and perfusion systems. You will lead multiple client-facing projects and contribute to designing, optimizing, and implementing scalable, robust bioprocesses. The role includes mentorship and collaboration with cross-functional teams in downstream, analytical development, and manufacturing.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Lead and manage multiple development projects, ensuring scope, timelines, and budgets are met.
  2. Design and execute experiments using shake flasks, high-throughput bioreactor systems (e.g., ambr15, ambr250), and bench-scale bioreactors.
  3. Develop and optimize fed-batch and perfusion processes for biologics like monoclonal antibodies and recombinant proteins.
  4. Implement novel upstream technologies including real-time monitoring (PAT), media/feed formulation improvements, and process control strategies.
  5. Support cross-functional teams by interpreting upstream results and providing technical insights during investigations or troubleshooting.
  6. Assess new technologies and equipment to enhance upstream capabilities.
  7. Write and review technical documents including protocols, SOPs, batch records, and reports.
  8. Serve as a subject matter expert in upstream development, providing strategic and technical input.
  9. Mentor junior scientists, support training, and promote best practices in cell culture process development.
  10. Facilitate knowledge transfer for scale-up and implementation.
  11. Maintain compliance with regulatory standards and quality requirements.

Qualifications:

  1. Ph.D. in Biochemical or Bioprocess Engineering (or related) with at least 7 years of experience, or M.Sc. with 10+ years in upstream process development.
  2. Strong experience in mammalian cell culture, process development, and optimization for batch, fed-batch, and perfusion systems.
  3. Proficiency with high-throughput bioreactor platforms (e.g., ambr systems) and experience scaling to 500L bioreactors.
  4. Expertise in experimental design (DoE), statistical analysis, and Quality by Design (QbD).
