Description

Job Summary: Specializes in the design, development, and implementation of systems and solutions to control sound and vibration. Responsible for overseeing the testing and calibration of equipment, analyzing test data, and providing recommendations based on the analysis.

Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Evaluates and predicts sound levels and vibration impacts of mechanical equipment such as rooftop HVAC units, air handling units, compressors, fans, and ductwork.
  • Collaborates with mechanical engineers, architects, and project managers to incorporate noise control solutions into HVAC system designs.
  • Develops and specifies noise mitigation measures, including silencers, vibration isolators, duct lining, acoustic enclosures, and resilient mounts.
  • Conducts site visits for noise and vibration measurements, diagnostics, and post-installation validation.
  • Conducts acoustic measurements, modeling, and simulations using industry-standard tools and software.
  • Prepares technical reports, acoustic specifications, and design recommendations that align with building codes and client requirements.
  • Ensures compliance with relevant acoustic standards (ASHRAE, AMCA, ISO, ANSI, LEED, local building codes).
  • Provides acoustical input during all project phases, from conceptual design through construction and commissioning.
Qualifications

Education and Experience Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in Acoustical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related field (Master's preferred).
  • 3+ years of relevant experience in building acoustics or HVAC noise and vibration control.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license or pursuit thereof is a plus.
  • LEED AP or other sustainability credentials are advantageous.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Proficiency in sound and vibration mitigation and calculation for HVAC equipment and systems.
  • Strong knowledge of acoustical and vibration principles, especially in relation to building services.
  • Proficiency with acoustical modeling software and measurement tools.
  • Familiarity with HVAC system components and layout.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills for technical documentation and client interactions.
Work Environment:
  • Primarily office-based with occasional site visits to job sites or test facilities.
  • Sit/stand for up to 95 percent of work hours.
  • Occasional travel for site visits.
  • Lift up to 50lbs occasionally.
