Description
Tulsa Educare is looking for a passionate BILINGUAL FAMILY ADVOCATE who wants to make a lasting impact on young children's lives. Join a research-based early childhood education program that provides education, care, and support to close the achievement gap of young, at-risk children.
Under the supervision of the Director of Family Services, this is primarily an educational position that plays an intentional role in supporting parents to develop strong, positive relationships with their children. This involves enhancing their understanding of child development, health, and learning, and strengthening their role in their child's educational experiences through group and individual strategies.
The role includes providing comprehensive parent education and training, family engagement activities, advocacy, case management, developing Family Partnership Agreements, facilitating parent involvement, transition activities, linkage and referrals for early intervention, and social services. The advocate will work collaboratively with the Educare Learning Network (ELN) and community partners to meet ELN requirements, DHS Licensing, NAEYC Criteria, and Head Start Performance Standards.
Essential Job Functions
- Use research-based data and strategies to inform program practices.
- Support core features of ELN such as social-emotional development, continuity of care, interdisciplinary approaches, and reflective supervision.
- Provide detailed information to parents on the importance of their relationship with their child and its impact on development, health, literacy, and future success.
- Conduct parent/child activities twice monthly and participate in home visits and conferences.
- Promote positive development and wellbeing through early intervention, outreach, and referrals.
- Ensure compliance with Head Start standards and participate in program assessments.
- Facilitate monthly parent meetings and review family progress with staff.
- Connect families to early intervention or disability services as needed.
- Provide developmental materials and activities to parents.
- Promote ELN goals such as supporting parent-child relationships, educational development, and parent advocacy.
- Develop leadership among parents and promote community involvement.
- Assist in health care access and community resource linkage.
- Encourage economic self-sufficiency through adult education and employment support.
- Complete Family Assessments and Family Partnership Agreements within 45 days of enrollment.
- Ensure services are culturally and linguistically appropriate for non-English speaking and immigrant families.
- Support transitions and provide ongoing family support.
- Collaborate with staff and community partners to enhance service delivery.
- Maintain high attendance and address barriers to participation.
- Provide continuity of care and foster positive family relationships.
- Implement an interdisciplinary team approach and collaborate on language, social-emotional, and numeracy initiatives.
- Complete reports and participate in team meetings and trainings.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Education and Experience: Bachelor's degree in Child Development, Early Childhood Education, Family Studies, Social Work, or related field, with at least 5 years of relevant experience. Bilingual (Spanish/English) required.
Knowledge and Skills: Strong interpersonal skills, cultural sensitivity, knowledge of child development and community resources, group facilitation, confidentiality, and adherence to TEI's shared values.
Physical Requirements: Ability to perform physical activities such as bending, lifting up to 25 pounds, and daily mobility tasks.
Additional Information
This is an educational position with some local travel, requiring reliable attendance and physical activity throughout the day.
