Position Summary:

The Estimator plays a critical role in supporting Francis by developing accurate, competitive, and timely cost estimates for EV charging infrastructure projects. This role involves reviewing bid documents, developing project scopes, coordinating with utility providers, and collaborating with internal and external partners to deliver winning proposals that reflect our mission-driven approach and operational excellence.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Review bid documents, drawings, and attend pre-bid meetings to understand project scope, schedule, and requirements.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for utility providers at each project location, coordinating delivery schedules, upgrades, and technical requirements with support from Francis Energy's utility team.
  • Participate in developing project scope, cost estimates, schedules, and risk assessments to ensure each plan can be executed successfully prior to handoff.
  • Perform detailed quantity takeoffs, precise cost estimates, and develop competitive bids.
  • Establish and maintain strong relationships with subcontractors, vendors, and third-party estimators to support competitive and profitable bids.
  • Develop detailed project schedules and participate in all project-related meetings.
  • Provide clear and proactive communication to management regarding project progress, risks, and opportunities.
  • Effectively utilize project management systems and best practices to manage scope, schedule, quality, cost, and risk.
  • Demonstrate broad technical and business knowledge in problem-solving, process improvement, and decision-making.


Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree or diploma in Electrical Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field; trade certification and/or equivalent experience will also be considered.
  • 5+ years of relevant experience in estimating, project management, or field work in electrical infrastructure or construction.
  • Strong understanding of project management principles, methods, and techniques; PMP certification or equivalent is an asset.
  • Proficiency with estimating software and project management tools.
  • Demonstrated leadership and organizational abilities, including meeting facilitation and expectation-setting with internal teams and external partners.
  • Effective, professional communication and interpersonal skills - verbal and written - with peers, management, clients, and vendors.
