Position: School Safety Officer

Reports to: Chief of Police - JPS Police Department

Supervises: None

Qualifications:

  1. High school diploma or equivalent.
  2. Must be able to obtain and maintain an Unarmed CLEET Security License.
  3. Successful completion of background checks and all district-required screenings.
  4. Strong communication and interpersonal skills; ability to interact effectively with a diverse population.
  5. Ability to remain calm and make sound decisions under pressure.
  6. Physical ability to perform regular patrols and respond to emergencies.
  7. Willingness to work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays, as needed.
  8. Prior experience in security, law enforcement, or school safety preferred.
  9. Demonstrated competence for human relationship and personal communication skills.
  10. Satisfy all district requirements with regard to physical health and citizenship.
  11. Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable.

Position Goal: Serve as a key member of the Jenks Public Schools Campus Police Department, working to ensure the safety and security of the Central Campus community. This non-commissioned, uniformed position supports district-wide safety initiatives by maintaining a visible security presence, responding to incidents, assisting with traffic and crowd control, and providing support to students, staff, and visitors.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities:
  1. Patrol assigned areas of campus on foot, by vehicle, cart, or bicycle to deter and detect unsafe or unauthorized behavior.
  2. Respond promptly and appropriately to alarms, disturbances, or emergency calls for service.
  3. Assist with traffic direction, parking enforcement, and vehicle-related issues on campus.
  4. Provide crosswalk coverage and support arrival/dismissal safety procedures.
  5. Support safety needs at special events, school functions, and during emergencies.
  6. Collaborate with the Jenks Public Schools Police Department and campus staff to maintain effective safety communication.
  7. Monitor physical security concerns and report issues related to access control, lighting, and facilities.
  8. Serve as a resource to students, staff, and visitors by providing information, directions, and general assistance.
  9. Work closely with Central Campus Administrators to promote a safe and secure educational environment.
  10. May be assigned duties at other locations within the district based on operational needs.
  11. Perform all other duties as assigned.

Employment Terms: Nine (9) month classified hourly contract

FLSA Qualification: Non-Exempt

Physical Demands:

Occasional Requirements: Reach with hands and arms overhead, above shoulder and horizontally; lift/move up to 40 pounds.

Visual Requirements: Close, color, peripheral, depth perception, ability to adjust focus.

Hearing/Speaking Requirements: Adequate to exchange information.
