Job Details

The Material Handler facilitates production by storing, moving, and delivering production materials and supplies, staging finished products, and maintaining accurate inventory in the warehouse.

90% of Work Time - Some of your daily responsibilities will include:

• Use Deacom ERP system to pick, move and stage products
• Work with Supply Chain Department to maintain accurate inventory
• Help maintain a safe and orderly environment of the facilities
• Perform pre-shift inspection of assigned forklift and report any safety or mechanical issue discovered prior to operation
• Participate in 5S and Continuous Improvement initiatives
• Diligent use of PPE at all times.
• Other duties as assigned by management team.

10% of Work Time - Material Handlers may be asked to cross train in other departments such as blending or packaging, to temporarily fill in if back up coverage is necessary. Some of your sporadic responsibilities could include:

• Blending of dry or liquid raw materials to a finished product for commercial, agricultural, and industrial uses. Ensure accurate and precise ingredients are used in each batch. Packaging of finished products into totes, drums, and pails may be required as needed.
• Turns valves and pours ingredients to fill mixer and pump containers.
• Package finished product into totes, drums, and pails by using pump, scales or tote/drum filler.
• Unload trucks and receive in packaged materials into inventory, pull orders from inventory, stage finished products and load finished product for shipment to customer.
• Load and unload raw materials and finished products into/from tanker trucks and rail cars across campus. Work is completed outdoors.

• High school diploma or equivalent
• Forklift experience required
• Ability to work independently as well as part of a team
• Basic computer skills
• RF Scanner experience required
• Verbal and written skills necessary to read and follow instructions
• Meet dress code of a neat, clean, and professional appearance
• Punctual and diligent in adhering to work schedules
• Positive attitude
• Willingness to learn and cross train between departments.

90% of Work Time - Essential Job Duties

• Lifting and Carrying: Material Handlers may need to manually lift, carry, or move materials and products that are too small or delicate for the forklift, often weighing between 30-50 lbs or more.
• Pushing and Pulling: The job may involve pushing or pulling pallets or materials to position them for loading onto the forklift.
• Bending and Stooping: Material Handlers frequently bend or stoop to check loads, pick up materials, or adjust items on pallets.
• Climbing: Climbing in and out of the forklift repeatedly during shifts is common, as well as using ladders to access higher levels of storage when necessary.
• Standing and Walking: Though much of the work is done while seated, material handlers also spend time standing and walking to inspect inventory, assist with manual tasks, or operate other equipment.
• Grip Strength: The job requires strong hand and arm coordination to operate the controls of the forklift, as well as manual handling of materials. This includes ability to lift and control scan gun.
• Balancing: Maintaining balance is essential when moving heavy loads, both when on foot and when operating the forklift, especially on uneven surfaces.
• Eye-Hand Coordination: The driver must maintain precise control and coordination between hand movements and visual observations, particularly in tight spaces or while handling delicate goods.
• Endurance: Shifts can be long, requiring operators to maintain focus and physical stamina throughout the day.
• Visual Acuity: Material Handlers need sharp eyesight for reading labels, monitoring load positions, and assessing potential hazards in the work environment. This includes turning head side to side.

10% of Work Time - Essential Job Duties:

• Climbing: Climbing up and down 15 foot ladders to attach hose to top of tanker truck or rail car.
• Environment: Working in a non-climate controlled warehouse with possible exposure to chemicals and moderate noise levels.
• Lifting and Carrying: Manually lift, carry, or move 50 pound hose.
• Pushing and Pulling: The job may involve pushing or pulling 100 pound totes.
• Standing and Walking: Standing for prolonged periods of time (8 to 12 hours from time to time) and walking to inspect inventory, assist with manual tasks, or operate other equipment.
• Schedule: Ability to work unplanned overtime as needed to complete days workload.
• Reading and Writing: Verbal and written skills necessary to read and follow instructions and to give instructions or directions to warehouse associates.
