Stick Welder

We are seeking a Stick Welder to perform welding tasks using the Shielded Metal Arc Welding (SMAW/Stick Welding) process. This role involves interpreting blueprints, specifications, diagrams, and welding symbols to accurately join, fabricate, repair, and reinforce metal components and structures across public infrastructure projects, including lighting poles, transmission towers, and other exposed structures. Approximately 90% travel required.

Pay: $26.00- $40.00 per hour DOE

Responsibilities:
  • Perform welding using the SMAW/Stick Welding process
  • Read and interpret blueprints, specifications, welding symbols, diagrams, and schematics
  • Select and prepare appropriate electrodes, welding equipment, materials, and tools
  • Set up and operate stick welding equipment according to project specifications
  • Perform welding in flat, horizontal, vertical, and overhead positions
  • Weld, fabricate, repair, and reinforce metal components and structures
  • Prepare metal surfaces by cleaning, grinding, cutting, and fitting materials
  • Inspect completed welds for accuracy and compliance with project specifications
  • Identify and correct welding defects (cracks, porosity, undercutting, incomplete fusion, slag inclusions)
  • Perform weld tests and inspections as required
  • Follow company, OSHA, and project-specific safety procedures
  • Wear required PPE, including welding helmets, gloves, safety glasses, and hard hats
  • Perform routine inspections and basic maintenance of welding machines, cables, leads, and grinders
  • Maintain accurate records of welding activities and completed work
  • Communicate with welders, inspectors, supervisors, and project managers regarding project requirements and progress
Required:
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Minimum 3 years of experience as a welder, specifically with SMAW/Stick Welding
  • Ability to perform quality welds in multiple positions, including vertical and overhead
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, welding symbols, specifications, and schematics
  • Willingness and ability to travel approximately 90% of the time
  • Ability to work safely at heights and in elevated work areas, including from a man basket
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs
Preferred:
  • Welding certification or technical welding training
  • AWS certification in SMAW/Stick Welding
  • Structural steel and/or heavy steel welding experience
