Job Title: Assembly Technician

Summary: An Assembly Technician is responsible for installing, assembling, and testing heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) or air conditioning (A/C) systems into buses or other transportation vehicles. This role typically involves both mechanical and electrical work to ensure that the HVAC systems are correctly fitted and functioning efficiently.

Job Description:

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Installation:
    • Install HVAC or A/C units into buses or other commercial vehicles according to manufacturer specifications.
    • Mount HVAC components, including air compressors, ducts, and condenser units, ensuring they are properly secured and aligned within the vehicle.
  2. System Setup:
    • Connect electrical wiring to HVAC units, ensuring that the system is properly powered and controlled by the bus's electrical system.
    • Install refrigerant lines and other necessary piping for the A/C system, making sure all connections are leak-free.
  3. Testing and Calibration:
    • Perform testing of the HVAC or A/C units to ensure they are working properly, checking for airflow, temperature regulation, and system efficiency.
    • Troubleshoot and diagnose any issues with the HVAC system, making repairs or adjustments as necessary.
  4. Safety and Compliance:
    • Ensure that all installations comply with safety standards and local regulations, including those related to refrigerant handling and electrical systems.
    • Follow procedures for handling and disposing of hazardous materials like refrigerants, ensuring environmental safety.
  5. Maintenance and Repair:
    • Conduct regular maintenance or inspections on HVAC systems, performing minor repairs or adjustments as needed.
    • Respond to any repair requests for malfunctioning HVAC systems, working to restore full functionality as quickly as possible.
  6. Collaboration:
    • Work with engineers and design teams to understand the specifications of HVAC systems and ensure that installations meet all technical requirements.
    • Collaborate with other assembly technicians to coordinate the installation process, ensuring timely completion of vehicle builds.
  7. Documentation:
    • Record installation details and any issues encountered during installation or testing.
    • Maintain logs of maintenance work and repairs done on HVAC systems for future reference.

Qualifications:

  • Education: High school diploma or equivalent; vocational training or certifications in HVAC systems, automotive systems, or related fields are preferred.
  • Experience: Experience with HVAC systems, A/C systems, or vehicle assembly is typically required. Experience working with electrical systems and basic mechanical skills are essential.
  • Skills:
    • Strong understanding of HVAC and A/C systems, including refrigeration principles.
    • Knowledge of vehicle systems and electrical wiring.
    • Ability to read technical diagrams, manuals, and blueprints.
    • Proficiency in using tools such as wrenches, drills, multimeters, and other diagnostic equipment.
    • Ability to troubleshoot and repair HVAC-related issues.
    • Good communication skills for working within a team and reporting issues.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to lift heavy components (sometimes over 50 pounds) and work in confined spaces.
  • Comfortable with standing, bending, and working in different positions for extended periods.

Work Environment:

  • Typically works in an assembly line environment, which may include exposure to loud noises, varying temperatures, and sometimes harsh conditions depending on the location or time of year.
