Job Title: Structural Fitter Welder

Job Summary: A Structural Fitter Welder is responsible for reading and interpreting blueprints, assembling metal components, and performing welding tasks to build and repair structural frameworks. This role requires a blend of fitting and welding expertise to ensure the strength, stability, and safety of the structures being worked on.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Fitting and Assembling:
    • Measure, cut, and shape metal components to the required size and specifications.
    • Assemble steel, aluminum, and other materials into structural components.
    • Fit components together based on blueprints and engineering drawings.
  • Welding:
    • Use various welding techniques (MIG, TIG, Stick, etc.) to weld metal parts together.
    • Ensure that the welded joints are strong, clean, and meet safety and quality standards.
    • Inspect welded parts to ensure proper fit and finish.
  • Blueprint Interpretation:
    • Read and interpret blueprints, drawings, and specifications to understand the structure's design and requirements.
  • Safety and Quality Control:
    • Follow safety procedures and wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE).
    • Maintain a clean and organized work area to ensure safety.
    • Ensure all welds meet structural standards and comply with safety regulations.
  • Fabrication and Repair:
    • Fabricate parts and components for structural use based on project needs.
    • Repair damaged or worn-out metal components in existing structures.
  • Tool Maintenance:
    • Maintain and operate welding equipment, hand tools, and machinery used in fitting and welding tasks.
  • Collaboration:
    • Work closely with engineers, project managers, and other team members to ensure proper execution of projects.
    • Communicate effectively regarding any issues with plans, materials, or tools.

Required Skills & Qualifications:

  • Proven experience as a Structural Fitter Welder or in a similar role.
  • Proficiency in welding techniques such as MIG, TIG, Stick, etc.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and blueprints.
  • Knowledge of safety regulations and welding codes.
  • Physical stamina and ability to lift heavy objects.
  • Attention to detail and precision in fitting and welding tasks.
  • Good problem-solving skills and ability to work independently or as part of a team.
  • Strong communication skills.

Education & Experience:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Completion of a welding certification program (such as AWS or similar).
  • Several years of experience in welding and structural fitting, particularly in the construction, manufacturing, or shipbuilding industries.
